Distance:

The total distance covered from Terlan to Stift Rein was exactly 456,10 kilometers. If we add up the distances covered by the individual walkers each day, we reach a total amount of 4,191.88 kilometers. That is more than walking from Graz to Moscow and BACK AGAIN!

Steps:

The total amount of steps it took to get from Terlan to Stift Rein was 593,023.  If we add up the steps taken by the individual walkers each day, we reach a total amount of 5,445,267 steps. That is how many steps an average american takes in 1,089 days or 3 years!

Elevation:

The total amount of elevation that was covered over the full distance was 8,050 meters. That is 798 meters below the peak of Mount Everest. If we add up all the elevation meters covered by the individual walkers each day, we reach a total amount of 82,018 meters. That takes us to the beginning of the Thermosphere, the outermost layer of our atmosphere!

Time:

The actual time spent walking from Terlan to Stift Rein was 117 hours. If the time spent hiking by each of the individual walkers every day is added up, we get a result of 1,065 hours! That is as long as 44 days of continuous walking or 710 football matches!

Speed:

By dividing the distance by our time, we get an average speed of 4,8 km/h. That is 10.85% of Usain Bolt's top speed. Bam.

Calories:

Over the course of the entire hike Concho burned 80,275 calories! That is as much as 268 McDonald's cheeseburgers, so he would have had to eat 19 cheeseburgers everyday to eat more than he burnt. If we take Concho's value as an average, the group together burned 728,209 calories or 2,427 McDonald's cheeseburgers!

Food and Drink:

During hiking the group consumed well over 500 power bars and about 280 sandwiches! Not quite 2,427 cheeseburgers, but plenty of food anyway. To drink we had 635 liters of water.

Today in Terlan...

While we arrived in Stift Rein today, Michu Goess and Sophie Brandis installed a permanent cross at the site of the accident in Terlan where we took off 14 days ago. Have a look at the picture below...

Diary:

Extraordinary levels of excitement due to the upcoming final day, only let us go to sleep at 10 o’clock. What a no go. We woke up at 5 o’clock to an amazing final breakfast with scrambled eggs and everything else you could ever dream of for breakfast. Our walking day started at 7:15 in Edelschrott, in contrary to most other days we spent a rather chilled morning with several corny breaks due to the extreme heat and because we wanted to enjoy our last corny bars as much as possible. Walking past a Lama paddock before lunch was reason for great excitement among several group members. Experiments like spitting at them, to make them spit at us failed. Next to newbie Leo Rössner and returned Alix Leeb, we also had the Reutters Labrador Liffey with us today, who refused to drink water all day, therefore M.I.A after lunch. Two naughty little girls called Valerie and Sophia wanted to revenge Philipp for being an arrogant fitness snob for the past days by secretly putting rocks and trash in his backpack. He however didn’t even notice and continued walking.

Just before the last ascent, we waited together to embark on it as a group. We arrived at Hollererhof, about 3km from Stift Rein, at 15:10. Here we were welcomed by a committee of parents and friends that came with us for the final steps down to Clemi’s grave. On our way to the graveyard we passed by the church to pick up candles. Walking across from the church to the graveyard created a very special atmosphere that touched us all deeply. When we put down the candles and said a short prayer we realized that every step and every blister was more than worth it.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us on the way by taking us in overnight, giving us lunch, driving us around, supplying us with medicines etc. and READING THE BLOG.

Diary:

On day 13 we were 14 people, the biggest group yet! Even though we were a big group, we still had a very efficient morning and arrived at the Görlitzerhut (1612m) after 2 hours and 15 minutes, the Landlady couldn’t believe how fast we were up there. After a short break at the hut, we continued our hike, the way leading through a pasture populated by several cows, who responded aggressively to Louis’s attempts at close-up video shots. No injuries. Today was very scenic, which was a good compensation for the long way back down the mountain, which was painful for some knees and ankles. For the first time, the group split up a little because there was confusion over which way was shortest, but we found each other again, so no problems there. The first people to arrive at todays final destination were Louis and Sophia at 14:58 after winning a sprint race against Philipp and Maxi who had caught up a lot by running the last 4 kilometers.

From the fellow walkers to our Concho:

Congratulations!! Today Concho achieved  greatness. Whilst we all collapsed at our goal, Concho kept going. He secretly walked an extra 32,5 km over the past 4 days hereby succeeding in catching up his lost day (day 4, where he was M.I.A. due to illness).
"Project Escalation" COMPLETED!!

Today we say good bye to Albi who has sadly left us one day before arriving.

First of all, a warm welcome to Margarita Leeb, thank your for joining us.

After driving for about an hour to the start in Lölling Graben we started off at 7:30. Eventhough our mornings are always strong, this one was spezial, we did the first 10 kilometers and 800 meters of elevation in 1 hour 44 minutes. The view from the Klippitztörl (1642m) was amazing! Being above the clouds feels like freedom without limitations. The rest of the day was downhill from the Klippitztörl to Bad St. Leonhard, on the way we took a few shortcuts through the woods, they were very efficient sometimes... and at times they resulted in sliding down on our bums causing scratches and broken hiking poles. At around 11 o’clock Philipp and Albi decided to run the remaining 8 kilometers so that they would arrive earlier and head back to the start to fetch the bus. In the end it turned out that they ran for 100 meters every other kilometer, but nevertheless they arrived at 12:15, half an hour before the rest. For the first time we could have lunch after arriving at our final destination fort hat day – a brilliant feeling! For the remaining two nights we will be staying at the Reutters house near our final destination Stift Rein, where we were welcomed with amazing Wiener Schnitzel!

Matthias unfortunately M.I.A. due to muscle and joint pain, but don’t worry the Lohners were strongly represented by the one and only Heinrich (@happpyharry - twitter). Shortly after starting to walk at 07:15 we had the brilliant idea of a shortcut through the woods without a path. We followed our instincts and the compass, the result was saving about 20 minutes at the cost of severe injury through Brennessel and Dornenbusch. We had felt the sweet taste of adventure and couldn’t resist trying  another shortcut at around 09:00. This time however was far more successful, nobody was injured and we saved 1 hour, that felt like 4 hours. Temperatures around 30 degrees celsius  made today a tough one, eventhough it was comparably short. Today the plan was to walk along a scenic bicycle trail, but when we looked at our map we found out that the carinthian bicycle trails are one with the main roads, so it wasn’t all that scenic. At 12 o’clock we met Matthias for Lunch in Mösel, where he had been waiting for us to come and installed a fabulous buffet with music. Thanks for the brilliant lunch break Matthias. Valerie was responsible fort he absolute highlight of the day, when she managed to collect a donation of 10 euros for our project from a complete stranger. Well done Valy! Shortly after this great success we arrived in Lölling Graben at 13:44, the first time before 14:00. Yay!

We are sad to inform you, that tomorrow will be the first day since the beginning of this walk without a Lohner representative. Good bye to Matthias the (m)athlete and Heinrich the faithful.

Sorry, only one picture today, the internet here is very slow, apparently due to the heavy rain in the afternoon, we will post the rest tomorrow!

Good night!

We had a late start because vehicle logistics proved to be more complicated than usual today. Unfortunately Albi M.I.A due to pain, fever and other girly problems. For the first time on this hike we forgot the flag in the car this morning, but luckily we had Matthias the (M)athlete in our team who went to fetch it. In contrary to all the other days, the morning was extremely tough. After five hours of walking we had a wonderful lunch at the Thun's, who live almost exactly along our route. The break lifted our spirits and the afternoon went by much quicker and easier, especially after meeting up with St. Veith's most prestigeous motocross gang: black mamba. The car was parked next to a yellow house, so as energy reserves were deminishing euphoria arose whenever yellow houses appeared. On one occasion the whole group sprinted for 300 meters believing the car was just there, only to find out it was just another yellow house. Due to the lengthy lunch break, arrival only at 17:14.

Back at Berlin's we were welcomed by warm bathtubs, a magnificent barbecue and the incredible Heinrich Lohner who has come back for one more day. He just can't get enough.

Gossip Blog: Just to clarify, Valerie and Sophia didn't really have an argument and didn't actually make out. Just a little bit. Maybe. No other gossip today. xoxo

After a tearful farewell from Josefa, Luisa and our dear host Moni Isola we left Döbriach at 7:20. Direction Radenthein. As usual a very efficient morning, with breaks at the pharmacy and the supermarket. Unfortunately today's track was mostly along roads and slowly the tarmac let us feel pain in knees and feet, even more than usual. But no problem for us, we are strong and like pain, further extreme motivation came from knowing that we would break the 300km barrier today. Juhay. After a romantic lunch at the side of the road that was half eaten by ants and discovering Concho's secret family treasure, we continued our journey to complete a very rough day. Arrival at 15:17.

Gossip blog: Valerie and Sophia had a big fight this afternoon, but then they made out in the car.

Now we are going to have dinner at the Berlin family, where we were warmly welcomed this afternoon with muscle healing bubble baths.

We warmly welcome Sissi and Albi, and we also have the pleasure of welcoming back Philipp the Mallmann. After a great night sleep and a filling breakfast we headed off to our starting point, Astnerhof in Obergottesfeld. Departure at 07:20. We managed to get off to a good start and stopped in Sachsenburg to buy our lunch at ADEG (many thanks Erika the Wurstfachverkäuferin). After the short break in Sachsenburg we managed to walk for another 2 hours without greater complications. As we were walking through Lendorf, enjoying the scenery, Albi and Sophia were dreaming of a Dog. Suddenly out of the blue, a Dog appeared and he just wouldn't go back home. So we had to take him and he was named Tasso because we obviously didn't know his name. Miss Lovrek spent all morning negotiating with the Police, and eventually managed to get in touch with Tasso's Mom, who then told us his name was Phoenix. We arrived at the western coast of the Millstädttersee just before Lunch, knowing that we had to go all the way to the east coast. After a quick Lunch on the way, we arrived at the Isola's house in Döbriach at 15:13. Another hour later we had to say good bye to Phoenix, as his Mom came to pick him up. Schinkenfleckerl and off to bed.

Gossip Blog: Franz and Luisa now FZZW / TILDTW (Fix Zam Zwecks Wandern / totally in love due to walking)

Unfotunately tomorrow morning we have to say good bye to Luisa and Josefa. What a pitty. But thanks for your steps. We hope your blisters heal quickly.

Maxi very quickly proved to be a real team member: unfortunately M.I.A. (by the way: Missing In Action) due to unplanned heavy loss of liquids at night. The rest, departure from Irschen at 07:11. As always strong performance before lunch. Lunch at 12:30 after 23km and 4 hours of walking. Matthias replenished his lunch break image by correcting yesterdays toast mistake by introducing a vital addition to our more and more sophisticated lunches: horseradish. Full of new energy we could continue our strong performance today and completed the remaining 9km at 14:57. The first arrival before 15:00 was welcomed by a round of applause, by ourselves. Back at the Rosenbergs we are now enjoying the post-walk-atmosphere and not moving. Later we will go for Dinner at a local restaurant with Markus. Again no Zwieback for Concho.

Today we say good bye to Heinrich Lohner, Alix Leeb and Resi Isola. We had a great time thank you for joining us.

After a very early breakfast at our lovely B&B Josefa the newcomer from last night arrived with perfectly taped toes...all toes! At the starting point in Thal we met with three more newies who arrived by foot because their car broke down just before reaching us. Departure at 07:20. The new additions brought new motivation and energy to the whole group, so the first three hours went really well. Everyone was fine with all the newcomers until Matthias the (m)athlete ordered a severely delayed ham and cheese toast in a "short" break. Rani took a time out before lunch and also after lunch, which was much appreciated by the hungry pack who ordered 15 sandwiches, none of which were alike. Except for Concho: Zwieback! A very efficient afternoon made the earliest arrival ever possible, 15:40. Learning of the day was: girls are not allowed to use the walky talkies anymore, because their voices sound ridiculous. We arrived at B&B Rosenberg in Berg i. D. around 16:00 and spent an amazing afternoon lying in the sun. The day was closed with a gschmeidiges Hirschragout (Concho no more Zwieback - daredevil).
